Make a Filled Chocolate Bar and Paint it with Rose Gold Lustre Dust

Today is the day to use our three-part chocolate bar mould from BWB. After making a perfect chocolate shell, we are going to fill it then spray paint it using Metallic Rose Gold lustre dust and grain alcohol in the incredibly popular Hobbycor manual airbrush.

This is a special chocolate mould because it has three parts. The combination of two rigid plastic parts with a flexible plastic insert allows you to quickly and easily make uniform shells with a perfect finish every time. Not only that, you avoid any waste.

The process is quite simple. You can start by placing the flexible piece over the mould on the top part. Fill the bottom part up to the designated line with melted chocolate. Either tap the side of the mould lightly with your hand or tap it on a hard surface to remove any air bubbles.

Next, put the top part with the flexible piece in place and press down gently until the chocolate rises to the top edge of the form. Turn the mould over and place it on a hard surface. Gently press around the form to ensure all the space is filled completely.

Place the mould in the refrigerator until the chocolate is set and firm. Then, remove it and begin the process of taking the shells out of the mould. To do this, just lift off the top part then remove the shells from each cavity. Finally, carefully pull the flexible pieces from each shell.

You can serve the shells as chocolate treats without filling them but you can take the goodness to a whole new level by filling them with something sweet.

Filling Your Chocolate Bar

To fill the shell, you can return it to the bottom part of the mould which will provide support.

There are innumerable fillings that you can use including candy, chocolates, and flavored creams, among others. For the video, we used doce de leite (dulce de leche, in Spanish). You can buy the ready made kind or make your own. Here is an easy recipe you can follow.

Ingredients

  • 1 lt of whole milk
  • 200 g of refined sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp of baking powder

Instructions

Add the first 3 ingredients to a large pan. Cook on medium heat, mixing constantly. When the mixture begins to boil, add the baking powder. Continue to cook for about an hour, mixing every 5 minutes. Be careful not to let the mixture stick to the bottom of the pan and start to burn. Don’t overcook.

You can fill the chocolate shells by using a spoon or a piping bag. What matters is that you only fill it to the designated mark and leave enough space to cover the filling with chocolate. Once you do that, return the mould to the refrigerator until the chocolate sets and is firm.

Carefully remove the chocolate bar from the mould. It should come out quite easily.

Painting Your Chocolate Bar

You can serve the filled chocolate treat “as is” or you can add some creative flair by decorating it. One way to do that is to paint it with brilho. There are so many wonderful colors to choose from. Gold is a very popular color and there are many shades to choose from. In the video tutorial, I opted for Metallic Rose Gold which has a beautiful pink tone to it.

You can dry paint the chocolate bar using just the lustre dust powder and a brush. Or you can spray the paint on using the Hobbycor manual airbrush, our best selling decorating tool. I chose the latter.

In order to apply the color with the Hobbycor, we need to mix it with some grain alcohol such as the Sugarflair Rejuvenator Spirit. You can also use vodka or rum, lemon extract or some essences.

Pour some of the grain alcohol into the Hobbycor’s plastic tube. You don’t need a lot. Add some lustre dust and mix. You might want to test the mixture on some paper to make sure it is the right thickness and consistency.

Once you get it to the point you want, paint the chocolate bar by pumping the Hobbycor as you move your arms from one side to the other. Try not to paint with your arms stationary or it will accumulate paint and make blotches that can run. By moving from side to side, you ensure a beautiful, even finish to your chocolate bar.

Once finished, you will have an beautiful chocolate treat that tastes absolutely delicious.
